Blackberries are a cancer preventing, fiber filled berry that is extremely versatile. They’re filled with antioxidants that are proven to prevent cancer. Blackberries also have this great ability to be served with savory and sweet dishes. They create a great compote and they’re delicious in a salad, adding a burst of flavor. My favorite way to eat blackberries is covered with honey, making this dish the ultimate upgrade. For more information on blackberries and their nutrition, Click Here.
Tips for Success
1. For the great results, use a triple-cream Brie. It has a higher fat content, ensuring it turns silky and gooey in just a few minutes in the oven.
2. Pair with wine. These are a natural match for sparkling wines like Prosecco or a crisp Sauvignon Blanc. The bubbles and acidity pair perfectly with the richness of the cheese.
3. The softer blackberries risk becoming overly soft in the oven. Try choosing blackberries that are a bit dense, or not extremely ripe to ensure the texture balance is ideal.
Why add salt and pepper?
The crack of black pepper might seem unusual for a fruit appetizer, but it cuts through the creaminess of the Brie and makes the honey taste even sweeter. The salt enhances all of the flavors bringing things closer together while enhancing the sweetness of the honey.
Alternative Ingredients
Blackberries – blueberries, figs, pomegranates
French Baguette – your favorite baguette
Brie – mozzarella, vegan brie, camembert
Honey – maple syrup, blackberry compote, agave nectar, dandelion syrup
Storing and Reheating
Store in a sealed container in the fridge. This will last 2-3 days. This can be served cold right out of the fridge, but serving warm is also an option.
Reheating in the oven is ideal. Place them on a sheet pan and into the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 3-5 minutes. Microwave for 20 seconds to 1 minute, ensure the bread is not left in for too long or it will harden.

Method
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut your baguette into small rounds. Thickness is purely a preference, but please keep in mind that thinner cuts will need less time in the oven.1 French Baguette
- Place your baguette rounds flat on your baking sheet. Cut your brie into rectangles that are around the length of your baguette. Cutting your blackberries in half is optional but recommended to prevent them from sliding off. Place your brie on top of your baguette flat. Then add your blackberries on top of your brie. Sprinkle the salt and pepper evenly.6-10 oz Blackberries, 8 oz Brie, ¼ tsp Black Pepper, ¼ tsp Salt
- Place in the oven for 3 to 6 minutes. You’re looking for the Brie to just start bulging at the sides, but be sure to pull them out before the cheese completely runs off the bread. The baguette should begin to warm, but not harden or change color. Drizzle your honey all over. Plate and serve.Honey
